MEET DEBI

DEBI GHEORGE ALTEN  is running for Broward County Court Judge (Group 11) in an open seat, which means a judge is retiring. 

Debi has been a resident of Broward County for more than 40 years. She is married to her husband for 28 years. They have 23-year-old twins, their daughter, Jamie and their son, Jason. Jamie and Jason are products of Broward County Public Schools and are graduates of Coral Springs Charter School.  Debi Alten graduated from J.P. Taravella High School in 1984. 

Debi graduated from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in 1993 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science. She earned her law degree from Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City, N.Y. in 1996 and graduated from the accelerated law program with a Juris Doctor degree. 

In Debi’s 28-year legal career,  has experience and practiced: 

• Civil litigation
• Criminal law
• Family law
• Bankruptcy
• Appeals
• Immigration 

In addition to her own firm, Debi is "Of Counsel" to a multi-attorney law firm.  Debi is currently a committee member of The Florida Bar Advertising Grievance Committee since July 2025. 

Debi obtained her first associate position as a family law attorney, while waiting to become a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service. Although being a Secret Service Agent was an exciting opportunity, she missed the private practice of law and wanted to have a more direct impact on the community.  Debi has been in private practice since 1999.

Debi Gheorge Alten decided to run for the open county court seat because she reached the point in her career, where she believes she can make a difference in our community.
